Longboat Key is a barrier island that spans two counties, Sarasota and Manatee. It is beautifully situated between the Gulf of Mexico and Sarasota Bay. Longboat Key has about 8,000 permanent residents. But during the peak seasons that number grows to around 25,000. Because of the large dependency on the tourist trade, and because it is a more expensive and prestigious area of the county, the law enforcement agencies of Longboat Key are quite strict with all traffic regulations, including DUI.
The Florida Highway Patrol and the Sarasota Sheriff’s Office have jurisdiction on Longboat Key. However, most investigations are handled by the Longboat Key Police Department. Although the department is rather small, they do have a specialized Traffic Enforcement Unit. The members of this unit are directed to look for possible DUI and traffic offenses that occur on the island. As there is only one main road that spans Longboat Key, avoiding detection is nearly impossible.
If you are arrested on Longboat Key for a DUI, you will be transported to the Sarasota County Jail and all court appearances will be in downtown Sarasota at the North County Courthouse. The address of the courthouse is 2002 Ringling Boulevard, Sarasota, FL 34237. Do not attend this court date without the proper representation. Call us now at (941) 404-5073 and we will fight for you.
